for Absolute Beginners

This is an 9-week Beginner Bridge course
plus a week up front to check Hardware.
The format each week will be
a 90-105 minute online ZOOM Lecture
and online Bridge Play.
This allows players to apply
the lecture concepts right away,
playing Bridge from the very first lesson.
You do not need a Partner
to join our Beginner Class.
Meet new friends and find a Partner!
We will always have a Partner for you.

Meet & Greet and Check Hardware
September 12 - November 14: 9 Class Lecture Days
Morning Session: 10am - 11:45am Eastern Time
Evening Session: 7pm - 8:45pm Eastern Time
Note: Monday, September 26 is Rosh Hashanah, and we will hold
a review and practice session on this date
for those who can attend. No New Material on this Date.
Participants choose either the morning or evening session
for their primary class time.
One session only each week, please.
Participants may, however, change their time of day
on any given week if they have a scheduling conflict.

Your Enrollment Fee covers:
* 90-105 minutes of Class time each week
- Roughly half of Class Time is Zoom Lecture
- Roughly half of Class time is online Bridge play
in Shark Bridge an online Bridge software package
* Pre-Class Video that walks students
through the lesson BEFORE the Monday lesson.
* A copy of the Beginner Bridge Level I Lesson Book /
Workbook mailed to you
* Optional 1 Hour Saturday practice session

Cancellations and Refunds will be allowed
up to 24 hours before the first class.
No Refunds after Classes start.
We won't be able to drop a replacement player
in your place once classes start.
Technology Requirements:
Players need the right kind of technology
for the Online Play portion to work smoothly.
First Choice - Desktop Computer or
a Laptop Computer
(Windows or Mac)
Second Choice - Tablet (IPad or similar).
(We have experienced issues with Tablets in the past.
It is not perfect.)
This Class will NOT work on a Phone!
Players should download the Zoom App
onto their device.
Go to zoom.us and follow the download instructions.
Players do NOT need to find and
download Shark Bridge!
WE will take you into our portal for online play.
Materials
Once Enrolled in the Course, players will receive
their Zoom links each week on Fridays.
Players join Meagan in the Zoom first
for their Monday classes.
Meagan will then lead players into the online playing area
after the Zoom lecture.

In addition to your Monday classes,
we also have an optional Practice and Play session
on Saturdays mornings from 10:00am - 11:00am
(Eastern Time)
These practice sessions on Saturdays allow you
to play more hands on each week's topic.
There is a brief review, and then you play - play - play!

Week of September 5th
PRE-Course Meet and Greet
This get together is optional but very, very important.
It's the time I can work with you to check
your hardware requirements and ensure a smooth transition from Zoom into the Bridge playing software.
Once you enroll, you will receive a list of sessions
during the week of September 4th from which to choose.
Monday, September 12
Class 1: Introduction, Vocabulary, Mechanics
Our first class introduces players to the context of Bridge,
and we will be playing Bridge in this very first class while learning Bridge Vocabulary and Mechanics.
Monday, September 19
Class 2: The Basics of Opening and Responding
This class introduces structure to our Bridge bidding.
Players will learn how to Opening Major Suits and
how to make basics Responding bids.
Monday, September 26
Not A Formal Class
Rosh Hashanah
We will hold review and practice sessions
for those of you who are able to attend.
Monday, October 3
Class 3: 5 - 3 Major Suit Fits: Point Ranges and Game
This class focuses on finding an 8-card Fit in a Major suit
after a 1H or 1S Opening bid. Players will decide whether
to bid to a Game-level contract.
Monday, October 10
Class 4: Trump Play of the Hand Basics
This class focuses on Declarer Play in trump contracts.
Players will spend much of their time learning to Pull Trump from the Opponents and successfully using remaining trump most effectively.
Monday, October 17
Class 5: 1NT Openings and Natural Responses
This class focuses on the requirements for Opening 1NT
when no Major Suit Opening is found. Players will learn
to bid Game in NT and how to view Declarer Play
without a trump suit.
Monday, October 24
Class 6: NT Play of the Hand Basics
This class focuses on Declarer Play in NT contracts.
Players will spend much of their time learning Promotion
as a technique to set up winning tricks later in a hand.
Monday, October 31
Class 7: 4 - 4 Major Suit Fits: Point Ranges and Game
This class focuses on finding an 8-card Fit in a Major suit
after a 1C or 1D Opening bid. Players will decide whether
to bid to a Game-level contract.
Monday, November 7
Class 8: Simple Overcalls by the Opponents
This class focuses on Opponent bidding for the first time
in the series. Now, all four players will vie for the right to play
a contract in a competitive auction.
Monday, November 14
Class 9: Putting It All Together
This final class in our Beginner Level I Basics Series
is a chance to review all of the topics during the 9-week series.
We play hands that are mixed in concepts
from the entire series.
