Play Bridge - Learn by Doing -- The Green Book

  • Preface  – Learning to Play Bridge

The game of Bridge is composed of Bidding, Play of the Hand, and Defense.

Many have noted that bridge bidding begins as a science and evolves into an art.  Because there are so very many possible bridge hands and so very few words to describe them, many different systems have been developed.  In fact, there will never be an end to new and creative bidding system possibilities.

If you went to a store or library, you would not find any two books by different authors that had the same bidding guidelines.  If there were one superior system, everyone would use it.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

In this short book, we give you an excellent basic system which is in keeping with modern bidding styles. When you become an experienced bridge player, there is no doubt you will want to tweak your system. But, the important thing now is just to settle on one basic system and go with it.  Since all of our students learn this basic system, it makes it easy to play with different partners at our lessons and games.
